The pillar of visiting Mecca in Islam, is it just to visit (anytime) or actually do the Hajj?

I�ve always wondered that. Thanks for asking. Don�t want to be a Muslim, but have often thought that if I was one, I wouldn�t like to visit Mecca during the Haj as such huge crowds really scare me.
