How can you trust the word of god...?

when the word has been ped down by man who by your own definitions is corrupt and will lie to make themselves prosper? Wouldnt it be logical to think that even if there was a god that if he spoke and someone listened that that person could twist gods word or change it over time to help himself prosper? You say that man is corrupt and wrong but you trust the words of men thousands of years ago?
