Pistol accuracy help?

I went to the range recently (first time shooting a pistol at a target) and I was using an M9/92f and I was about 20 feet away with the sights ligned up and was not hitting the target at all (silhouet)(spelled incorrectly I'm sure). I dont know why because I was even missing on shots that were so spaced apart recoil could not have been a factor. Also I dont think I was shifting the gun when I was pulling the trigger because when I shoot my friends airsoft pistol I have great accuracy. The problem did resolve slightly when I transfered to a USP9
