How did prohibition encourage the creation of new forms of social activity?

I would say that prohibition encouraged the criminal aspects of social activity. It made criminal activity more acceptable because very few people followed the laws of the prohibition and therefore it made criminal activity less stimatized. From this social organizations like the mob grew stronger and become acceptable alternatives to government. Not to mention the thousands of people who fueled the underground economy of alcohol. The prohibition gave and created power for all aspects of organized crime.
